SpaceX’s Official Moon Base By 2024!

it appears that nasa and spacex are very    close to the goal of returning to the    moon hence the stiff competition from    rival aerospace manufacturers is quite    obvious but elon musk is certainly not    going to let anyone get ahead of him he    revealed spacex's insane plans for a    moon base by 2024    to know what this plan is stay tuned    [Music]    welcome to elon musk rewind don't forget    to subscribe to our channel like this    video and hit the notification bell icon    to get updated with tesla spacex    starlink and everything about elon now    here's some exclusive info musk shared    he believes that starship was designed    primarily as a means of general purpose    transportation throughout the solar    system this is because it is a propeller    driven lander which allows it to land    anywhere there's solid ground    in addition it allows for orbital    refueling so that you can send tankers    to replenish the propellant so that the    starship can expand very far from earth    because it can be refueled in orbit    essentially he sees a lot of scientific    learning that could be accomplished at    the moon base    he added that having a proper moon    laboratory could help us explore the    nature of the universe the origin of man    and other things despite operating a    science station in antarctica he    admitted that they're still learning    from their antarctica adventures he also    believes we can learn more when we are    on the move so he thinks having a base    on the moon will be pretty awesome for    humanity he also noted that if we build    something like an antarctica science    station on the moon there is a value    that should not be taken away for people    wishing to experience those things    to him it will be humanity's greatest    accomplishment ever akin to milan and    would be inspiring to all kids    with this we are certain that nasa's    plan to build a moon base is indeed    noteworthy now let's take a closer look    at the work being done by nasa and    spacex to make a lunar base    with the rapid evolution of humankind    it's becoming increasingly clear that    our planet earth may not be able to    support our ever-growing fascination    with exploration and discovery in    addition to discoveries spurred by    curiosity others are also a result of an    effort to improve life as we know it and    the apparent obsession of nasa and    spacex with exploring and colonizing    space is a good example    nearly 50 years after the first mission    to the moon nasa is now preparing to    return but this time the mission is to    stay it's a mission within nasa's    artemis program and at first glance it    might seem like a scene from a sci-fi    movie so what's your opinion about nasa    and spacex's plans to build the moon    base how excited are you about the    return of mankind to the moon share it    with us in a comment below    this program has two primary objectives    a human presence on the lunar surface    and a crude mission to the moon    a program named artemis is named for the    greek goddess of the moon who is also    apollo's twin sister it was a gesture of    appreciation from nasa for the apollo    missions which landed the first person    on the moon    moreover artemis base camp will be built    near the south pole of the moon as the    main part of the program as part of    nasa's vision the lunar surface will be    home to a human presence that will    support deep space uncrewed missions and    a permanent human presence on the lunar    surface    nasa and spacex will also use the    artemis base camp for a crude mars    mission this program will allow humans    to return to the lunar surface in 2024    for the first time in 50 years together    with nasa there's spacex a space    engineering company founded by ceo elon    musk which has been a leading rocket    technology provider for nasa and won the    bid to support the artemis program    recently their bids were successful in    warding off those of rival companies    blue origin and dianetics    nasa contracted spacex for 2.89 billion    dollars to develop and manufacture a    lunar landing capable variant of the    starship as a part of the project two    space flights will be conducted as well    as a crewed lunar landing so from the    lunar orbital gateway to the lunar    surface base camp spacex will transport    astronauts spacex will use an upgraded    version of its starship rocket to launch    a lunar lander called the starship hls    as part of nasa's audacious plans to    visit and colonize mars spacex will be    leading an expedition towards mars via    the hls which stands for human landing    system a modified version of this ship    was designed exclusively for lunar    exploration    hls starship designs differ    significantly from standard starship    designs in that heat shields and air    bricks are not prevalent these are    features found on standard starship    models it's because there's no    atmosphere on the moon to allow the hls    to heat up when landed in addition to    this the starship hls is equipped with a    landing thruster which will be used when    the craft is headed towards the moon's    surface and when it's about to launch    the first mission for the hls starship    will utilize the super heavy booster to    launch unmanned from earth    on the starship hls two astronauts will    remain aboard the lunar gateway while    the other two will descend the deep    gravity well of the moon towards its    surface    this is because astronauts plan to carry    out various experiments on the lunar    surface during the first lunar service    mission during this mission they will be    living aboard the starship hls then a    couple of weeks later the astronauts on    the lunar surface will be reunited with    the rest of the crew who are in orbit    around the moon in terms of the base    camp's location it will be built near    the south pole of the moon in a region    known as the shackleton's crater it was    deliberately chosen to put the    shackleton crater in such a unique    location where the peaks surrounding the    rim are frequently exposed to sunlight    yet the interior is in perpetual    darkness additionally nasa has uncovered    pockets of icebergs in this area as a    result of extensive research with this    it's obvious that nasa's criteria for    the ideal base camp location are fully    met by the shackleton crater there are    many things nasa considers when picking    a site but these two determining factors    are the most important this is because    there must be sufficient sunlight on the    site to power up the base and provide    easy access to areas of total darkness    ideal for storing ice    also in order to succeed in its goal of    self-sustainability the artemis base    camp will need access to ice as for the    artemis base camp itself it would likely    be a lunar surface habitat that could    house four astronauts based on the fact    that scientists will have to remain in    the base camp for extended periods of    time life support is a high priority in    addition to power waste disposal    communications shielding and a landing    pad water stations mobility systems and    much more the facility would require a    wide range of infrastructure as a rule    of thumb nasa ideally recommends that    the landing pad be at least half a mile    or a kilometer away from other base camp    elements such as the shelter and solar    panels    further it'll be located at a higher    altitude than the descending spacecraft    in order to prevent debris equipment or    scientific research areas from being    damaged by descending spacecraft as they    estimate the thrust of landers could    disperse hundreds of kilograms of dust    gases and water over several kilometers    this is to minimize the impact of    contamination hills can act as barriers    allowing us to take full advantage of    landforms like them thus nasa is making    these efforts to prevent such a scenario    from occurring during nasa's planning    for the south pole site the team    considered distances elevations and    slopes and in order to facilitate    communications with astronauts working    on the moon the artemis base camp will    be located on the earth-facing side    two systems of transport will support    artemis base camp including a lunar    terrain vehicle that astronauts will use    to traverse the moon's surface    then an astronaut-friendly mobility    platform that would allow them to go    away from the base for up to 45 days    nasa has reportedly underlined the    importance of mobility within its    artemis project and is determined to    give its fullest attention before the    project is approved in order to    accomplish this nasa has indicated it    will develop robust systems for    exploring and developing the moon the    same applies to mars as elon musk and    spacex have always stated it's equally    important to build a habitable mobility    platform there so it's certain we will    see it soon    nasa announced their plans for the moon    base in a 13-page report that a hopper    will be used to deliver science and    technology payloads to the moon by the    end of the century as part of artemis    base camp crew members will operate it    from the artemis base camp and    propellant will be sourced locally    there's no doubt they intend to mirror    technological advances here on earth    over in space    certainly there is a positive sign for    the future of any possible human    settlement in space    though there will undoubtedly be    numerous logistical and scientific    factors involved    nasa plans to install a remote radio    telescope at artemis base camp on the    lunar far side and just think of it as    the artemis base camp backyard radio    telescope as part of nasa's larger goal    to develop deep space missions    infrastructure the artemis base camp is    part of the organization's larger vision    obviously spacex nasa and elon musk are    totally committed to bringing the lunar    base to life even though most of the    plans are still in the early stages its    completion will serve as a blueprint for    developing sustainable space outposts in    the future thus we may be able to    colonize mars in the future with the aid    of artemis base camp's technological    advancements and innovations with this    humanity will likely take many steps    towards exploring the final frontier in    the future    that's all for this video about elon    spacex and thank you for watching
