this could be tesla's way to set in    motion huge changes to the rapidly    growing industry of electric bicycles    it is no secret that the electric    bicycle market in the us is experiencing    impressive growth year after year for    years despite the 25 percent tariffs    imposed on imported Chinese e-bikes by    the trump administration in the united    states electric bicycles are becoming an    increasingly popular form of    transportation for both recreation and    everyday transportation unfortunately    there does not appear to be any domestic    manufacturing of electric bicycles for    the u.s markets although the trump    administration had increased import    tariffs on electric bicycles most u.s    e-bike manufacturers have confirmed that    they have no plans to move production to    the united states as a consequence    the development of the necessary tools    supply chain and skilled labor force for    the product would be so expensive that    there would not be any us e-bikes    companies that would be able to afford    it    tesla on the other hand could the    production of an electric bicycle-based 

  on tesla's existing design and    manufacturing capabilities would not    pose any significant challenges to the    company it's possible that if they do    this we could see a revolution in the    electric bicycle industry unlike    anything we've ever seen before in the    past decade there has been a significant    advancement in the electric bicycle    markets early electric bicycles were    largely standard bicycles with bolted-on    motors and batteries since vehicles have    become more integrated with parts cables    and electronics there is a more sleeker    appearance to the vehicle design    however over the last few years there    has not been a noticeable quantum leap    in the development of e-bike technology    as for the batteries there are many    packs that look sleeker and sexier but    they still use the same old 18650    batteries that have been available for    about two or three years the batteries    that accompany e-bikes haven't gotten    much lighter or more durable in recent    years    since the invention of the e-bike hub    motors nearly a decade ago not many    significant changes have taken place a    number of improvements have made the    gears stronger and their efficiency    slightly higher although nothing major    has been accomplished it's not a    surprise that mid-drive motors were a    big deal three or four years ago and    that since then only slight updates have    been made to make them lighter or give    them more torque nice improvements    though nothing major it is possible for    tesla to make things to the extreme    leveraging its expertise with motors and    batteries to cause a paradigm shift in    the automotive industry it is possible    for batteries to become more energy    dense and last for a decade instead of    just two or three years as they are    currently and it is also possible that    motors could become smaller or double    their power so as to be more quiet and    perhaps even invisibly hidden in the    frame the tesla electric bicycle might    include a huge weight savings feature or    be easily foldable to be stored in a    trunk moreover there is a chance that    e-bike range could skyrocket with large    efficiency improvements and better    regenerative braking systems i think    that an electric bicycle from tesla    could potentially be theft proof or at    least theft resistant as it comes with    an integrated gps tracking system there    is a possibility of making the user    interface a central design focus instead    of an afterthought and maybe charging    stations could be incorporated into    public stations or maybe the tesla    superchargers could be installed we    might even be able to expect a tesla    electric bicycle to feature autopilot    okay now i'm speculating out of left    field but i'm sure you get my points as    long as tesla has the resources and the    company has a laser-like focus on    changing the future of transportation    nearly anything could be possible for an    e-bike that uses tesla batteries it is    important to note that when tesla    designs a new product they do not make    it purely a technological wonder rather    it is a beautiful 

example of how form    meets function    it seems that electric bicycle    industries so slow to embrace radical    redesigns that it is hard even to    imagine what an electric bicycle from    tesla might look like there is one thing    however which is certain if tesla's    chief of design franz juan hollhausen    and his team were to take on the    challenge of designing an electric    bicycle from scratch it would be    legendary while we do not have that    answer we will be able to use the    interpretations made by other designers    until that time    it is no coincidence that a number of    artists and designers have experimented    with the idea of capturing glimpses of    the future in their thoughts    kendall torner a student at the    massachusetts institute of technology's    industrial design department presented    the designs at electric it is difficult    to imagine how tesla would come up with    a design for an electric bicycle that    would be innovative but lightweight    materials and sleek flowing lines are    likely to have a role to play    let's begin by pointing out that elon    musk has made many more outlandish    statements over the years that came true    this means that with him almost anything    can be accomplished    while musk stated that he would never    manufacture an electric motorcycle for    tesla he seems to be much more    optimistic about manufacturing an    electric bicycle for tesla model e-bikes    are predominantly white just like tesla    cars before it introduced the midnight    silver coat in addition now that the    tesla car color option has been    introduced we might also see the same    color option for the tesla e-bike soon    which would be great right    also tesla's e-bike electric bicycle has    an incredibly unique steering mechanism    you may be right if you look at the    bike's handlebars and believe that they    are used for steering however you may be    wrong about how steering works when    you're on other bikes you just turn the    handlebars on the tesla e-bike the    handlebars are rigid
