our own city    elon musk the ceo of tesla and spacex    said that he is developing a new    metropolis in texas named starbase    it's not a secret that musk is known for    his grandiose initiatives    further musk's metropolis will be built    around his aerospace company spacex's    rocket launch pad    musk who is currently the world's    richest person with a net worth of    nearly 226.5    billion dollars according to the forbes    real-time billionaires list has    frequently used the microblogging    website twitter to share brief updates    he went on to say that the star base    project would just be a part of the    plans for colonizing mars hinting that    it would only be the start    the tesla ceo continued from there to    mars and hence the stars    spacex operates facilities in boca chica    village a small unincorporated community    near brownsville texas    moreover at musk's aerospace company    rocket prototypes have been tested since    2014 as part of the company's    development of the starship rocket    elon musk is building a futuristic city    in texas one of the least likely places    for such an endeavor it's in a faraway    place out of sight of most but the most    ardent fans of space exploration know    that the seeds of starbases city are    being planted    there's no doubt that elon musk is one    of the most influential motivated and    innovative people of our time so what    kind of city would be able to be built    from scratch if given that opportunity    for today's video we're going to talk    about elon musk's star base texas    currently starbase is only a dream    but spacex does own much of the village    of boca chica texas where it's planned    to be built in fact they have conducted    those tests there and they usually end    in a big explosion on the texas gulf    coast it's located at the southernmost    point and is a triangular shaped point    that is separated from the ocean by the    rio grande river on one side and meets    the mexico border on the other    specifically the village consists of a    short dirt road with about 30 houses on    either side about a quarter mile long    when construction began on the village    in the late 1960s a hurricane almost    immediately destroyed the sewage system    and water treatment facility causing    massive flooding in the area    the village held on for decades but made    no progress because after the hurricane    the village lost all interest in moving    forward    they don't even have a water pipe nor    are there any grocery stores restaurants    or gas stations    fresh water is delivered to holding    tanks next to homes by the county the    only sign of civilization is the spacex    facility and the nearby neighborhood    thus elon's excitement is understandable    as it's a perfect location to launch    spaceships from    elon said in 2018 that they have a lot    of land that has nobody around so even    if it blows up it's fine a starship    prototype can even be seen being built    on a launch pad through the highway    which is a very strange village    most of boca chica is owned by spacex at    this time and they began buying out    landowners a few years ago    most of the homeowners in the village    are not full-time residents    for most people it was just a getaway    area in the winter to escape from the    cold weather and enjoy an evening of    solitude however bokuchika is not a    quiet area these days due to the    constant construction and rocket    launches and crashes so when did spacex    offer three times market value for the    homes    the deal has mostly been accepted but a    few people still hold out it's because    rocket scientists taking over won't be    cool for everybody    surely those people never dreamed they    would one day have to deal with actual    spaceships colliding near their houses    and exploding all the time    spacex employees are mostly living in    the area now and they have either moved    into existing homes or are living in a    little airstream trailer camp near the    launch pad    musk himself lives in a very modest    ranch house in the village and spends    much of his time there    originally the house had a solar roof    but was renovated inside and out elon is    already asking others to join spacex in    south texas over the next year or two he    anticipates several thousand people will    move to the boca chica area however    without water connections and just 30    houses this is impossible    a new start is really what's needed here    and that's where the star-based city    originates here's where things get    interesting    how would elon musk build a city if he    had to do so from scratch the book and    video games cyberpunk 2077 are favorites    of elon so will starbase end up looking    like night city    not likely but it would be awesome as we    know that elon is known for his    efficiency    so it's going to be planned and built    with a purpose in mind    also i think solar power and tunneling    are going to emerge as the two key    themes in the early years    it's well known that elon musk is    passionate about both tesla and the    boring company he's poured millions into    both and now is his chance to showcase    his style with just 10 000 square miles    of solar panels elon has stated they    could power the whole country thus solar    farms and tesla battery packs would be    connected in fields to provide    sufficient power to one small city    further every building has a solar roof    and a power wall to regulate the power    supply resulting in an entirely off-grid    city without any connection to the state    grid    the idea is awesome and elon has all of    the technology needed right now to make    this a reality considering there will be    no streets and no traffic in the city i    can't imagine why a star base would need    any roads what would be the point for    him the best option is the tunnel    essentially autonomous electric vehicles    would be able to transport people    underground    then boring company tunnels have the    potential to be more than just a means    of getting around starbase additionally    tunnels may also be the only means of    reaching and leaving the city making    brownsville texas boca chica's nearest    population city in the meantime it    proves to be a big advantage to spacex    to restrict access to the starship test    area which helps prevent people from    entering a dangerous zone however when    large groups arrive at the area the    highway can get backed up with traffic    in addition the highway has been flooded    blocking all traffic coming and going    from star base to brownsville    installing a hyperloop system    underground would make a world of    difference    further visitors can fly into    brownsville international airport and    then rocket towards the starbase to    enjoy rockets traveling at speeds of    over 100 miles per hour    once their loop system is up and running    the boring company is estimated that    they can travel at the maximum speed of    150 miles per hour once they get fully    autonomous vehicles operating elon    cannot simply try to declare himself the    techno king of a new town by sticking a    flag in the ground    additionally an incorporated town faces    many politics and elon has already begun    playing the game    one of elon's major victories was the    legal challenge by the texas government    to set up the spacex launches early on    in the process and rockets are not being    launched and crashed instead road    closures are being imposed    also local governments in brownville are    involved thus elon has to stay on their    good side for starbase to succeed and    luckily he's already found the way to    their hearts as well as money    announcing a 30 million donation to    brownsville in april elon pledged 20    million dollars to improve the schools    and 10 million dollars to revitalize    city centers it's a lot of money for    anyone but in particular it's a big deal    for the city of brownsville texas is one    of the poorest states in the country    the economy here is essentially    non-existent    county officials note that over 1400    local jobs have already been created by    the company but the possibility of the    company moving has already created an    economic boom    moreover brownsville is experiencing a    surge in buyer interest for empty    commercial properties as people vie for    the best spots and what could be the    next great city the number of real    estate agents in the city is doubling or    even quadrupling in the aerospace    industry the greater brownsville area    has a good chance of becoming silicon    valley    ultimately elon was able to incorporate    his city of star base with a little bit    of democracy and politics incorporating    spacex would give it a mayor a police    force and the ability to handle taxes    and infrastructure alone it's also    likely that spacex will use eminent    domain to expel any remaining residents    who aren't spacex employees from the    area    thus in the next decade starbase will    have incredible possibilities in essence    this is our stage for existence on mars    within the next decade spacex will be    able to build a vast fleet of starships    hundreds of them starbase would be the    site where they would be built and    stored if elon's master plan were to be    implemented as a result people like elon    musk are flocking to texas at the moment    and there's a reason behind his absurd    new plan to create his own
