IT HAPPENED! The Tesla Bot 2022 Is FINALLY Here!
tesla has lots of robots that help with manufacturing its electric cars however an entirely new kind of robot the tesla bot is about to come from tesla which will directly affect you and me what is the tesla bot and what can it do you're about to find out as the tesla bot is finally here tesla is known for making electric cars it is so good at it that its models have years-long waiting lights this is in line with its stated goal of combating environmental pollution by making electric vehicles accessible to all hence many will be surprised to know tesla is working on a robot however given the amount of talent at tesla's disposal and other reasons you shall see in this video it is not surprising that the company is working on making robots for many reasons some of which we'll cover in this video a robot is a natural next step for tesla look at how elon musk the billionaire ceo of tesla describes his company in the cars it produces tesla is arguably the world's biggest robotic company our cars are basically semi-sentient robots on wheels if you own a tesla you might have never seen your tesla in that light however is musk's claim faults every tesla car has a brain that allows it to drive itself fill to the air watch out for robbers precondition the battery while approaching a charging station and so forth and what is powering the brain box is artificial intelligence just like musk puts it tesla is only putting its existing cutting-edge tech into a different form what form is the tesla board coming in and why is musk building the teslabot but before that lots of people get scared when they hear of robots they imagine scenarios where robots take over the world with chaos ensuing robots going rogue and turning on people that's not surprising because pop culture often presents robots as humanoids that walk about and speak like humans rivaling human intelligence they even get the deadliest weapons in comics and movies along with superpowers however the truth is robots are everywhere doing things but since their form does not conform to the popular imagery of robots we tend to miss them most forms of robots conform with their intended functions the real robots look nothing like humans at least for now take an automatic door as an example it is a fully featured robot as it works completely on its own when you approach the door opens on its own after sensing your presence it can even be programmed to greet you or say a cheerful goodbye nobody has built an actual mechanical doorman that walks towards you and takes your coat yet because its usefulness is not critical the same is true for the self-working vacuum that cleans your home without your supervision on an industrial scale robots do lots of valuable work that are repetitive or hard the basic ones lift heavy objects sort items by color or shapes while the more advanced ones weld parts musk says some of its production lines employ about a thousand robots although he is looking to cut the numbers one robot even rings a bell each time it finishes making a component [Music] that's aside from the fact that many robots are not even always these physical things with grabbing arms for example suppose you tried to meet amazon's alexa or google's deep mind what you will find is plenty of dull looking rows of servers with cables running everywhere unlike the attractive lady robot from ex machina sci-fi that's besides the fact that we tend to focus on the negative millions of robots do valuable work already without incidents but people just love to dream up robot doomsday scenarios so what does the tesla bot look like it looks just like the humanoids you see on tv but there is no need to panic because the form of the tesla bot is dictated by the function just like any good robot as you shall soon see in this video contrary to the mellowed idea push by the name the teslabot as revealed on tesla's ai day has quite a commanding presence standing almost six feet the size of an adult human it weighs 125 pounds but it is hard to mistake it for a human because of its sleek black and white appearance its feet look like it's wearing skin-tight knee-high boots the teslabot is equipped with tesla's advanced automotive artificial intelligence and autopilot intelligence which allows it to plan and follow routes and navigate traffic however in the case of the tesla bot it is navigating human traffic and avoiding obstacles so with the teslabot tesla has moved its self-driving tech from four wheels to two moving feet in mimicry of or homage to if you will humans in fact during the reveal musk explained the robot codenamed optimus uses the same chips and sensors that tesla uses for self-driving features the slide shows the tesla bot will have autopilot cameras installed on its forehead apart from its cars tesla is developing lots of the computers needed for its robots so adapting it to a humanoid is not so strange or unusual the tesla bot can carry 45 pounds lift at 150 pounds and run at 5 miles per hour far slower than the speed record set by tesla cars the black head has a screen where you can read useful information the teslabot is human features because it will interact with and be around humans but you do not have to fear it musk said the tesla bot is being designed so humans can run away from it easily anyway or even overpower it musk also said the tesla bot would be friendly so that humans can interact with it easily tesla uses lightweight materials for the construction of the body with human level hands with five fingers and two axis feet for balance the neck has two 4d electromechanical actuators so the tesla bot can move its head or rotate its head or the torso area has another pair the arms legs and hands each have a dozen of the actuators what will you use the tesla bot for musk gave an example on stage you could tell your tesla bot to go get your grocery from the store and leave it entirely to the task just like you can ask apple siri for the time of course musk focused on the domestic uses of the robots where they would interact with humans on a handy level however the teslabot will have far more intense use cases going by the overall description of its duties given by musk himself teslabot will eliminate dangerous repetitive and boring tasks looking at another popular robot the spot the functions of the tesla bots start to take shape the yellow quadrupedal robot by boston dynamics goes where humans don't or can't go with spacex employing a couple during its rocket testing for example armed with the appropriate sensors and enough computing power to make decisions the tesla bot could be dispatched to look for survivors in the ruins of natural disasters where humans stand a chance of getting killed it could go into hostile terrains like the desert or fragile caves to do scouting or be employed handling toxic wastes on nuclear sites we have now come to why musk is building an ai empowered robot frankly musk is among the least expected people to make such a thing the billionaire manufacturer has spent years being vocal about the dangers of artificial intelligence sounding dire warnings and even butting heads with fellow billionaire mark zuckerberg on the subject back in 2017 musk spoke to an audience including governors on ai's impact on human existence and warned about a.i given his level of exposure and involvement in the tech he pushed for proactive regulations rather than reactive ones of course musk is not a big fan of regulations but he knows when they are practical recommends them for ai however musk's warning does not seem to have been complied with so he is doing something along the lines of if you can't beat them join them on twitter musk acknowledged ai robots were coming anyway pointing out the successful and captivating demos made by boston dynamics so since he can't ensure that the robots from other companies are safe it's only logical that he makes one at tesla where he can try to ensure they won't harm humans let us know what you think of the teslabot in the comments below
